Devils Run Hamburgers

First UMC is one of the most recognizable groups at Roosevelt Park during Devils Run, one of the largest international car shows in North America.

The church is known for selling delicious grilled hamburgers or cheeseburgers with their signature stewed onions, soft drinks and chips.

In addition to being a great time of visibility for our congregation, the volunteer labor raises several thousand dollars for our ministry in Devils Lake. Join us at Devils Run. Look for hamburgers sold by people in red t-shirts!

Olde Tyme Chautauqua Picnic

Devils Lake was once the site of the official North Dakota Chautauqua, with weeks of speakers, camping, worship, and celebrations. This event, which originally grew from the Methodists gathering to teach their Sunday School teachers in upstate New York, swept across the nation, and, most often, included Methodists in its leadership. The Devils Lake event was briefly revived around the US Bicentennial, butdid not last very long, but is still remembered in the community.

Each July, the Devils Lake Arts in the Park features a Olde Tyme Chautauqua Family Picnic, and in honor of our deep connections to this event, First UMC and its United Women in Faith host the meal. This evening also includes honoring local heroes, selections from the Elks Band, and is a great night at

Roosevelt Park.
